They are made of rubber, cloth or nylon materials. Rubber V-belts have low-noise, but are not suitable for high temperatures. They are effective for use with shafts that are separated by a short distance or have a high rotational speed ratio. V-belts come in standard and red varieties. Standard V-belts are readily available and long-lasting. Red V-belts are used for transmitting larger amounts of power than the standard type. They are also more stretch resistant, and offer a variety of features such as oil resistance. There are also V-belt types that offer superior antistatic performance and heat resistance.
